AP Top 25: Second reaction

The AP Poll has arrived after a long and splendid weekend of football. Let’s take a look at it and give some thoughts.

What jumps out?
Texas, Clemson, Notre Dame all top 10
The three teams that lost the marquee matchups of the weekend all stay in the top 10, which is fine, I guess, because they did play a hard nonconference game while most teams played a cupcake. Personally, I don’t put them there, but I get it.
Oregon with a #1 vote
The fact that someone voted Oregon at 1 is very odd. They’re slotted at 6 in the poll, but someone went against the grain and put them at the very top. Props to them, I guess.
Miami… overrated?
Miami is 5th in the poll, jumping up 5 spots. I get them jumping up 5 for beating Notre Dame, but are they really the 5th-best team in the country? Personally, I don’t think so. We’ll see how they do against USF, Florida, and Florida State in a few weeks.
Michigan above Oklahoma for the game of the week
Michigan had a relatively close game vs. New Mexico last week, but OU didn’t look insane vs. Illinois State. It’s gonna be a fun one on Saturday, where we’ll see who deserves the higher ranking. (Check out my game preview)
Who got left out?
South Florida
I get that they are a G6 team, but dominating a top 25 team like that deserves some recognition. They had Boise State in the top 25, so they should have USF.
Auburn
After a great win vs. Baylor, Auburn should be ranked, in my opinion. Honestly, if the Iron Bowl happened right now, I would take Auburn. There’s an argument to put them above Alabama.
Georgia Tech
Yes, they got off to a really rough start, but a win at Colorado is an impressive feat. They should certainly be ranked, in my opinion, especially when teams like Utah got the nod and they didn’t.
Who is overrated?
Miami
As I mentioned earlier, Miami is overrated, in my opinion. They didn’t look that good against Notre Dame, and Notre Dame might not actually be such a good team. They are not the 5th-best team in the country, so they shouldn’t be ranked there.
Notre Dame
Notre Dame still being at 9 is a bit crazy to me. They did not look like a top 10 team on Sunday, and I see multiple teams below them who I would easily pick in a game right now.
Florida State
Alabama might just be pretty bad, so FSU getting the 14th spot is a little too high. They have to win a couple more games for me to really believe they deserve that.
Michigan
I do not see the top 15 appeal to Michigan. It’s hard for me to put them in the top 25, let alone the top 15. We’ll see who they truly are on Saturday, though.
Who is underrated?
Oklahoma
You might think this is bias, but there’s just no way there are 17 teams better than Oklahoma. The world will see how talented the Sooners are when they dominate the Wolverines.
Texas A&M
They struggled a bit against UTSA defensively, but I think this is the best chance the Aggies have to make the playoffs in a while. They play Notre Dame in a couple of weeks, which should be a good one.
Texas Tech
In my opinion, Tech at 24 is just plain crazy. They are the best team in the Big 12. I’ve got them all the way at 11 in my poll.
